This is a July 5, 1909 Collinsville Amateur Baseball Club Pinback Pin
made by Whitehead & Hoag. 1 1/4" diameter  We have been unable to place the team. 


You're pin/button is almost certainly that of the Collinsville, CT semi-pro baseball club. The town team played such teams as the Cuban Giants (NY), Pittsfield (MA), Tarrington Y.M.C.A., Forestville, Waterbury Jeffersons, Coe Brass of Tarrington, and for this double header held on 7/5 the Hartford Royals (Typewriter Co). 

The team had new grounds built for the 1909 season and it was a big event for the July 5th game. The game was not held on July 4th as that fell on a Sunday and there often were laws held on games being played on Sunday. So, a double header was held (10am, 4pm) on Monday. Simond's Military Band were part of the celebration. 

The 1909 Collinsville Ball Club was managed by Louis E Thayer. Some of the players who definitely saw action were Rainault (C/P), Olds (P), Lambert (2B, C), O'Leary (P), Brown (C) and Gudski (LF), T.J. Myers (SS), Thiery (1B), Jenkins (CF), Curry (3B)

While Collinsville, IL also had a semi-pro team of some merit, I could find nothing on them having a game on July 5th.

STARKIE'S JOLLY NIGGER BANK - ORIGINAL IDENTIFIED v. OLD REPRODUCTION

In the process of liquidating a living estate, we came upon a rare and original Starkie's Jolly Nigger (Moves Ears) Mechanical Bank. The bank was patented in 1920 by Robert Eastwood Starkie of Burnley, England (British Pat No 152,588). All known banks were made of Aluminum. In 1945, a patent was issued to Robert Patterson Starkie for a similar bank. This is the bank that is most often seen in Antique and Collectible circles and is often mistaken for the original from 1920, even by major auction houses. At first glance from the front, the banks look identical. However, there are at least 8 differences: 1) Original: Ears are located closer to the eyes. A "V" shaped section from the back half of the casting fits into a "V" groove in the front half.
