1943 MICKEY COCHRANE'S GREAT LAKES NAVAL TRAINING STATION BASEBALL TEAM PENNANT

Image
Hello, I have this pennant and would like to know about it and it's value. You have quite a rare pennant. In 1942, baseball great, Mickey Cochrane was asked to manage The Great Lakes Naval Training Station Baseball Team. He was given the rank of Lieutenant and put together a team of major and minor league players who joined the Navy for WWII. Cochrane managed the team for 3 seasons (1942-1944) and was replaced by Bob Feller for the 1945 season. The Bluejackets played Collegiate, Minor League, Major League, Industrial and Semi-Pro teams. Money raised from these games went mainly to Army-Navy Relief Funds. Cochrane's teams went 63-14 in 1942, 52-10-1 in 1943 and 48-2 in 1944. They famously met the winner of the 1942 Major League All-Star game (losing 5-0).  No less than 68 major leaguers played for the GLNTSBT in the 4 war year seasons. Players such as Schoolboy Rowe, George Dickey, Gene Woodling, Bob Feller, Johnny Mize, Billy Herman, Barney McCoskey, Virgil Trucks, Benny Mc...

PYX COMMUNION WAFER BOX by SWIFT & FISHER

Image
Got this item here, it is sterling. Not sure what it is , is it for snuff or holy water?  it is about 1 1/2 iches tall and 1 3/4 inches diameter. Also  the engraved markings on top have any meaning? You have yourself a Pyx or Communion Wafer Box. This was used to hold communion wafers and could be taken by a priest to give communion to the sick, on home visits or whatever. It was made by Swift & Fisher (c1912-Present) out of N. Attleboro, MA who are known for making ecclesiastical items. It certainly has some age to it and probably dates to pre-WWII. It probably could bring into the low hundreds.

LIMOGES SITES OF PARIS COMMEMORATIVE PLATES BY LOUIS DALI

Image
We have seven similar plates and were seeking information regarding their value. Appreciate your assistance. You have 8 plates in a set of 12 that were issued in 1983 by The Bradford Exchange. They were designed by Louis Dali and commissioned by The Paris Historical Society. Although manufactured in France, these plates are similar to most collector's plates in that they are not worth much money. A set of 12 of these top out at around $125. Individual plates bring anywhere from $2-20 each and everywhere in between.

EDISON AMBEROLA CYLINDER PHONOGRAPH - MODEL A TYPE SM - MAHOGANY CABINET

Image
I have this Edison Amberola  Model A - Type SM -  Cylinder Phonograph in a Mahogany Cabinet with 4 drawers below that I wish to sell. Do you have an idea of pricing/value? Serial number is 1746. You have what appears to be a beautiful Phonograph which was made by Edison from c1910-1914. Your fairly low serial number would put it earlier in that date range. Kovels lists this machine for $2,655 in their 2015 edition (condition unknown). Stanton's Auctions sold one (I did not see picture) for $4,950 at their 2014 Musical Machines Auction. Donley Auction Services also sold one in 2014 for $1,900 that needed extensive cabinet restoration. Oak cabinets carry more of a premium.  I would say that value for a Mahogany 1A in the condition yours is in would have to start around the $5,000 range that was realized at the Stanton auction. There are many variables that can effect value and more sell prices would make me more comfortable in establishing a range.  THE PERSON...

COMIC GAME OF THE GREAT EXHIBITION OF 1851

Image
I am wondering as to the value of a game I inherited called The Comic Game of the Great Exhibition of 1851. I cannot seem to find a value. Your game, which also falls into the Antiquarian Book Category, is very rare. It was published by William Spooner and illustrated by or in the manner of  Richard Doyle. It is a colored lithograph mounted on linen, folded into 9 sections and pasted into cloth bound covers. It originally had a decorative ribbon tie. Available at the 1851 Exhibition held in London, the first of the International exhibitions that followed. Your game/book can be found in a handful of University collections and seldom comes to market. An example sold at Christie's Auction House in 5/2004 for $2,793 US Dollars. Another example was available via a UK Book Dealer at the 2012 California International Antiquarian Book Fair for $9,165 US Dollars. It is likely that the true value falls somewhere between those two numbers.

c1940's CAST ALUMINUM AIRPLANE TABLE FAN

Image
Can you identify the manufacturer of this Airplane Fan and what it may be worth? Your Airplane fan is a fairly scarce. There seems to be no information out there about these fans. I have seen a few of them. Some without the cage, some with the cage, but, without the "Airplane Fan" medallion. A company called "Dallas Engineering Corp" made a ceiling fan and called it the "Dallas Airplane Fan". I would presume that this fan was made by another such Engineering Company or some other company related to the Airplane industry.  I will say this...an example of your fan sold for $667 on E-Bay in 2013.
