SILVERPLATE MARK IDENTIFICATION - MWC in Upside Down Triangle - M.W. Carr & Co

I Picked up this creamer & Sugar set, I couldn’t find anything much on these. I don’t think they are silver, what can you tell me about the maker

Your Creamer/Sugar Set was made by M.W. Carr & Co out of Boston/West Somerville, MASS (1868-1995). Carr was formed by Martin W Carr and was a manufacturer of "Fancy Metal Goods, Jewelry and Novelties". They started in Boston in 1868 and moved operations to West Somerville in 1894. I believe your set to be from the 1920's when Carr made fancy filigree and repousse brass/silver over copper items such as trays and carriers with glass inserts (Pyrex). They had several different lines: Galleon Silver, Empire Ware and Holland Ware which used the mark you have provided. These pieces were marked on the bottom often with a mold number. The W.M. MTS mark means that the applied decoration is White Metal. The MWC Hallmark has proved to be elusive. Some have thought it was Montgomery Ward Co or Montreal Watch Case Co...that is incorrect. I believe this ID is the first to appear on the internet.

I believe your Galleon Silver creamer/sugar set would retail for about $45.

Thank you so much for your info. I bought an amber glass 3 section fitted in gold filigree octagon shaped basket with swags and dancing nymphs with this logo and Empire Ware on the bottom rim. There is no mark on the glass. I have looked the net over for the maker, but at least I know who made the metal part. The metal fits so tight that the glass can not be removed. The style of the metal is much like a Cambridge green candy dish with a pink glass rose bud knob, which is rare and the metal is marked Apollo Studios.

MW Carr also had a glassworks so its possible the glass relishes etc we see were made in their factory as well

STARKIE'S JOLLY NIGGER BANK - ORIGINAL IDENTIFIED v. OLD REPRODUCTION

In the process of liquidating a living estate, we came upon a rare and original Starkie's Jolly Nigger (Moves Ears) Mechanical Bank. The bank was patented in 1920 by Robert Eastwood Starkie of Burnley, England (British Pat No 152,588). All known banks were made of Aluminum. In 1945, a patent was issued to Robert Patterson Starkie for a similar bank. This is the bank that is most often seen in Antique and Collectible circles and is often mistaken for the original from 1920, even by major auction houses. At first glance from the front, the banks look identical. However, there are at least 8 differences: 1) Original: Ears are located closer to the eyes. A "V" shaped section from the back half of the casting fits into a "V" groove in the front half.
